How to Use Liquid Attractants for Carp Fishing

Liquid carp attractants are one of the most versatile tools in the carp angler's kit. Applied correctly, they extend the reach of your hook bait's scent, trigger feeding responses, and keep carp in your swim long after the initial groundbait has broken down. This guide covers every application method and how to get the most from Honey Pot Chum.

What Is a Liquid Carp Attractant?

A liquid attractant is a concentrated flavour and scent compound applied to bait or introduced via a feeder to create a scent trail in the water. Unlike dry bait which disperses particles, a liquid attractant disperses dissolved compounds that carp detect through their highly sensitive olfactory system and taste receptors. The scent travels further and faster than particles, drawing fish from greater distance to your swim.

Application Method 1: Hook Bait Dipping

The simplest application. Squeeze a few drops of Honey Pot Chum onto your hook bait — boilie, tiger nut, corn, or wafter — and allow it to absorb for a few minutes before casting. The hook bait itself then releases scent on the bottom around your rig. For boilies, you can soak them overnight in a small amount of syrup for deeper penetration.

Application Method 2: Groundbait Additive

Add a small amount of Honey Pot Chum to your mixing water before adding it to the dry groundbait. This distributes the attractant evenly through the mix. As the groundbait breaks down on the bottom, it releases both food particles and attractant scent simultaneously, creating a combined visual and scent trigger zone around your hook bait.

Application Method 3: PVA Bag or Mesh

All five Honey Pot Chum flavours are PVA-friendly. You can apply the syrup inside a PVA bag or onto pellets inside PVA mesh without dissolving the bag before it reaches the bottom. The PVA dissolves on the lake bed, depositing the syrup-soaked pellets directly around your hook. Keep applications light — a few drops is sufficient.

Application Method 4: Honey Pot Feeder Slow-Release Chamber

This is the most effective delivery method for Honey Pot Chum. The Honey Pot Carp Feeder's internal chamber holds the syrup and releases it gradually through 21 hexagonal vents over 45+ minutes per cast. This creates a sustained scent zone that continues working long after groundbait has dissolved — keeping carp in your swim throughout the session rather than for the first few minutes after casting.

Fill the chamber once per cast. A single 100 ml bottle provides up to 10 sessions of use at one chamber fill per cast.

Dosage Guide

  • Hook bait dip: 3–5 drops per bait, or soak for 5–10 minutes
  • Groundbait mix: 5–10 drops per 500 g dry mix added to mixing water
  • PVA bag: 3–5 drops onto pellets inside the bag
  • Honey Pot Feeder chamber: fill to capacity, once per cast

Honey Pot Chum is high-concentration. More is not always better — excessive application can overpower the scent profile and deter rather than attract. Start conservative and adjust based on results.

Matching Flavour to Conditions

The effectiveness of any liquid attractant depends on matching the scent profile to conditions. Strong profiles (Garlic, Durban Beachfront) for murky or cold water. Subtle profiles (Honey, Scopex) for clear water and wary fish. See the flavour selection guide for the full breakdown.

How Long Does a Bottle Last?

One 100 ml bottle provides up to 10 sessions. At one feeder chamber fill per cast, the chamber holds approximately 8–10 ml. Factor in hook bait dipping and groundbait use and a single bottle comfortably covers multiple sessions. The 5-Flavour Box Set (R249) gives you 500 ml across five flavours — enough for an extended testing programme on any venue.
